Business Development Manager - Litigation and International Departments

Overview:  Under the guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Business Development Manager will manage the marketing and business development functions for the firm's litigation, international and government affairs practices.  This position is responsible for providing strategic marketing guidance and executing on the tactics identified to achieve specific marketing, business development and client retention and expansion objectives.   

Practice area specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • initiating attainable marketing strategies to raise the practices’ profile, enhance their positioning and strengthen client relationships;
  • supporting the practices' strategic and business planning efforts; 
  • working with firm lawyers to coordinate responses to and background research for RFPs; tracking business generated from those responses, and identifying reasons for securing/not securing the business; 
  • preparing client development pitches and presentations; 
  • working with the CMO on individual lawyer business planning efforts;
  • working with the CMO on practice group business planning efforts;
  • directing client-development events;
  • providing targeted research on clients, prospects and competitors;  
  • researching relevant industry and market trends;  
  • developing competitive and business intelligence;
  • identifying media, speaking , publishing , and sponsorship opportunities to meet credentialing and profile raising objectives; 
  • evaluating ROI on marketing and business development initiatives;
  • collecting engagements and client case studies for use on the firm’s website, in RFP responses and for other internal and external marketing and business development initiatives;
  • working with designated lawyers to develop firm submissions to publications like Chambers;
  • working with the firm’s CMO to develop an annual business development budget;
  • preparing internal firm-wide communications to promote recent successes and other relevant developments;
  • drafting and updating electronic and hard copy collateral materials; and
  • working with the CMO to integrate and promote new laterals.

Additional responsibilities include working with the firm’s InterAction specialist to capture relevant data in the firm’s CRM system and coordinating with other members of the marketing department on firm-wide and practice specific marketing initiatives. 

Requirements:  Several years of demonstrated success in a marketing and/or communications-related field, either in the professional services arena (e.g. , law, accounting, consulting) or in one or more positions of comparable seniority in the corporate, trade association, or academic sectors; four-year degree is required; a degree in marketing, business, research, or a communications-related field is preferred; demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; strong written and oral communication skills; conversancy with CRM technology and web-based applications; demonstrated good judgment; “boardroom” presence; a team-first orientation; and stamina.  Three writing samples illustrative of the candidate’s ability to produce effective marketing and communications materials are required.

Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
