Recruiting  Law Students  Writing Sample Policy
The ability to communicate effectively in writing is an important aspect of Miller & Chevalier's practice and a valued quality in the lawyers that the firm recruits. We therefore ask that candidates submit a 10 to 15 page sample of their legal writing. A memorandum, brief, or similar advocacy piece analyzing a legal problem is ideal. Law review articles and other documents that have been edited by others should not be submitted as writing samples. Whatever the type of document submitted, it should show an ability to organize and explain the relevant legal authorities and principles and to apply them to the facts at hand. Although the document need not be lengthy, we prefer to see it in its entirety. In addition, if not self-evident from the document itself, please include a short description of the context in which it was written.
