Recruiting  Associates  M & C Women Attorneys Group
In early 2004, women attorneys at Miller & Chevalier created an informal group that has regular discussions concerning issues relevant to women professionals.

Each month, this group -- known as the M&C Women Attorneys Group -- breaks into smaller groups for lunches intended to foster mentoring relationships for women within the firm. Each small group consists of several attorneys of different seniority levels and practices areas within the firm. These groups allow the participants to interact with attorneys at the Firm whom they might not otherwise encounter. The groups rotate every six months.

Every other month, the entire group meets for topical discussions. Discussions have featured the following:
  • A prominent speaking consultant led a discussion on presentation skills.
  • An associate discussed what she had learned at the outside seminar, “Taking Charge of Your Career: Best Practices for Women Lawyers and Their Firms.”
  • Roundtable discussions on time management tips, formal evaluations, and a recently published book on female career advancement.
  • A member discussed a leadership conference that she attended at Harvard University and a panel of members discussed their own leadership experiences.
  • A Q&A session during which associates asked members questions on career and life/balance issues. The members shared “best practices” that they have learned over the course of their careers.

The Women Attorneys Group also maintains a “bulletin board” on the Firm’s public directory. Attorneys are able to post articles related to women and the law, announcements for professional development programs, and recommendations for professional development publications.
