David S. Christy, Jr . has practiced international law, focusing on international trade disputes and negotiations, for 17 years. Since the formation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, Mr. Christy has represented Member governments, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Poland, Saudi Arabia and St. Lucia, in dispute settlement proceedings and negotiations. With firm member Chris Parlin, he was the first private counsel to represent a Member in a WTO dispute settlement proceeding. They recently advised Saudi Arabia regarding the bilateral and multilateral negotiations that led to Saudi Arabia’s accession to the WTO.
He advises governments, industries and companies regarding bilateral and multilateral disputes and trade negotiations. Mr. Christy also advises on trade and competition policy issues and U.S. trade remedy proceedings, including Section 201 (safeguard), Section 301 (unfair trade), Special 301 (IPR), Section 421 (China market disruption) and antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings.
Mr. Christy is recognized in The Guide to World’s Best International Lawyers for his work in the area of International Trade. Since 1998, Mr. Christy has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, teaching courses on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the WTO agreements, the Doha Development Agenda and related issues. In the Fall of 2006, he was appointed as a founding member of the faculty of the Academy of WTO Law and Policy of the Institute of International Economic Law of Georgetown University; he has been reappointed for 2007 and 2008.
Mr. Christy earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. in Philosophy, Political Science and Psychology, with Distinction, from the University of Kansas, where he was awarded Departmental Honors in Philosophy and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha honor societies. Mr. Christy is a member of the Bars of the State of New York and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
