Barbara Murphy  is a member in the international trade practice with more than 25 years of experience in Section 337, antidumping and customs.   Previously, she was with Adduci, Mastriani & Schaumberg, LLP, where she practiced extensively before the International Trade Commission, the Department of Commerce and the Customs Service, handling 50 Section 337 investigations, numerous antidumping investigations, as well as a wide variety of customs matters.  She has handled all aspects of Section 337 investigations from filing of complaints through appellate review.  She has represented domestic and foreign companies pursuing and defending against Section 337 relief in cases involving patent, trademark, copyright and/or trade dress infringement, as well as claims of false advertising, trade secret misappropriation and gray market goods.  Her experience covers a wide range of technologies and products from tools and machinery to flash memory devices and chemicals.

In the antidumping area, she has handled investigations and reviews at both agencies.   In addition to helping clients prepare questionnaire responses, she regularly advises them on antidumping procedures and the modification of business practices to minimize the impact of antidumping orders.  She has handled antidumping appeals at the Court of International Trade and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  She is also active in the trademark and copyright area, where she advises clients on applications, licensing and litigation.

Ms. Murphy is on the Board of Directors of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and previously served as Chairman of the FCBA’s International Trade Committee.   She is a former President of both the ITC Trial Lawyers Association and the Dartmouth Lawyers Association and is an active member of the International Trademark Association.

Ms. Murphy is recognized in Legal 500 for her work in the area of Intellectual Property.  She has lectured on Section 337 and antidumping procedures and other international trade and business topics to clients, bar groups and international trade associations.  Ms. Murphy is admitted to the D.C. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Second, Fourth and Ninth Circuits.

Ms. Murphy received her B.A. from Dartmouth College and her J.D. from George Washington University.  During law school, she clerked at the ITC’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations and also served on George Washington University’s Journal of International Law & Economics.
